RFID Blockers

Yoooooooooooo! Greetings from paradise ☀️ my security soldiers! Today I want to discuss a physical defense mechanism that is super easy to implement into your daily life and I honestly find it hard to believe that not more people still haven't protected themselves against RFID jacking! 

 

RFID Jacking/Hacking/Skimming (JHS just because I wanted to create yet another acronym today!) 🤓 might not be the technically correct term for this but the "made into proper English" version of this is... 

 

Your credit cards 💳 can be read from a distance.  You don't even need to scan your card...it can be scanned while walking in a crowd...or just driving. A recent Defcon 🥷 visit showed me that given a strong enough antennae, I can read a card from well over 2 miles away!  

 

For those that don't know...Defcon 🥷 is a "Blackhat" hacker conference where hacking/crackling/shellacking are all on focus...well shellacking might not be...but it SHOULD BE! But I digress...DefCon is where many bad guys...and many gray hats go to learn more skills. 

 

This being said, lets get back to RFID Jacking.  Here is a quick write-up...🔥 

 

If your cards allows for a "quick tap" to use anywhere...your badges, or your credit cards with the "tap" logo on it...then its susceptible to a remote RFID JHS (I already hate this acronym...how fun!). 

 

My favorite way to mitigate this risks is a simple RFID blocker 🛑 ... And if anyone knows, my particular tastes… You know damn well that I went shopping for some of the best stuff out there. Let me introduce you to my fave two brands of RFID Blockers. 

 

Now, before we start 🏁… This is by no means a definitive list. These are based on my particular aesthetic… This is just to get you started. The important part is for you to get your own RFID, wallet. Also, we don't profit or have hidden links in our referrals...they are simply my honest recommendations. So lets begin! 

 

First off, Carved Live Edge Wallet 🪵 This is my first RFID blocking wallet and it's still in my possession… They are all unique, and they are all gorgeous. Amazing product whose only real downfall is that its a little too delicate for my needs...I am a beast and it seems like I break this one too easily...this being said for those who are a little more delicate with their items, please take a look at this product! 

 

Second, Ridge RFID Blocking Wallet. 🤘 This is my current daily driver. Its built to be used by humans as well as by large and clumsy beasts as myself.  I have dropped this a million times...I have submerged this a million and a half times...I have put this through middle of a black hole (not really)...you get the idea.  Its tough...and the fact that it has survived with me for over 2 years now is a testament to its build quality. 

 

Also, don't get the shiny "Damascus Steel" one.  That's the one I got and the less people that also buy that one, the less basic I look! 🤪 

 

That's all for now...I just wanted to get this out as I don't see many of these wallets in real life and...well...its an easy thing mitigate.  🎉
